National Sports Centres
There are five National Sports Centres run by Sport England.
Ø Bisham Abbey
Ø Holme Pierrepoint
Ø Plas-Y -Brenin
Ø Sheffield (English Institute of Sport)
Each centre has the best facilities, expertise and equipment for their particular sports.
Top performers can access expert help and advice. Many centres have nutritionalists, sports injury and rehabilitation centres and physiological testing equipment.
They also provide accommodation so that our top performers can train and compete.

The English Institute of Sport in Sheffield is the newest centre, opened in December 2003. It is one of the country's most impressive indoor facilities. Use the following link to complete a virtual tour of their facilities

Look at the EISS web page. Find two stories about how they are helping our top class performers. Write a short newspaper article about one of the stories you have found.
'Over 280,000 grants have been awarded from The National Lottery, totalling over £20 billion and benefitting all sorts of people and organisations across the UK.' National Lottery 2008 Sports is one of the good causes to receive funding.
