Lesson Objective: To investigate The Radical Psychiatry view of the nuclear family

Introduction
The radical psychiatry (sometimes referred to as anti psychiatry) movement of the 1960s and 1970's offers an opposite interpretation of the modern nuclear family than that offered by functionalism.
The privatised family is seen as oppressive, cut off from society, and the source of mental illness and repression. This lesson examines the contributions to Radical Psychiatry of Leach and Laing.
