Edward VI became at the age of nine upon the death of his father, Vlll. He was known as 'The Boy King'. His mother was Jane .
Edward was a sickly child and the country was run by his protectors: firstly, the Duke of Somerset, his mother's , then by the Duke of Northumberland.
Edward at the age of 16 in 1553. Edward reigned at a time when England became very much a country. Churches were stripped of ornate , pictures and stained class windows and a new prayer was introduced

Before he died Edward's adviser persuaded him to name Lady Jane Grey as his heir. This was because Northumberland didn't want the Catholic Mary (daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of ) to become Queen. Unfortuntaely the people never Lady Jane Grey who only ruled for 9 after which she was imprisoned and . After Lady Jane Grey Mary Tudor became queen and England became again. Over 2000 protestants were burnt at the under Mary's orders. She became known as " Queen Mary" because she executed anyone who refused to give up being a protestant
