One of the most common and most ways of promoting health education is through the mass media. Mass media means any form of which reaches a very large or “mass” audience and includes TV, , the internet, magazines, newspapers etc.

Advantages of Using the Mass Media for a Health Campaign

1. They can increase public of a health issue quickly
2. They can raise of a health issue very effectively
3. They can invoke an response which can cause immediate changers in behaviour e.g. the recent anti smoking TV advice “adverts”
4. They can influence public and set agendas for debate

Disadvantages of Using the Mass Media

1. It is hard to get immediate from the target group
2. It is difficult to assess whether the message is pitched right and is at the right level because of the lack of immediate feedback and lack of
3. Sometimes researchers get the message and it misses its target audience
4. People can turn off their TVs or not read your contents in a newspaper or magazine - the audience is not “
