Notes 1. The information below is designed to give you an overview of health and social care courses on offer 2. Activities 1 and 2 are designed to get you thinking about health and social care settings. Health and Social care is a vocational subject. Do you want to work in these settings? 3. Activity 3 is a decision making game designed to get you thinking about what it is like to work in a health care setting. Play it twice - try making all the right answers then try it making all the wrong answers - what does it teach you?
Health and Social Care Options There are 3 possible courses you can follow 1. BTEC - one year course for students with GCSEs at E or around (level 2) 2. A Level single award (5 GCSEs at C or better required) 3. A Level double award (5 GCSEs at C or better required) What does each option involve? 1. BTEC There will be 6 units (modules) to complete. One of these units is work experience (60 hours minimum) which will be assessed by your work experience supervisor. The other 5 units are assessed via portfolio (assignments and projects). There is no examination. BTEC goes very well with an NVQ2 childcare 2. A Level Single Award One of these units (human growth and development) is assessed by an examination. The other two (communication and values and Positive Care environments) are assessed via portfolio work You can take A Level single award with a wide variety of other vocational and non vocational AS Levels 3. A Level Double Award You do the single award units as outlined above and three additional units. One of these additional units is assessed by an examination (Social aspects of health), and the other two (Creative activities in care and Public Health) are assessed by portfolio work. You can take A Level single award with a wide variety of other vocational and non vocational AS Levels Health and Social care is a vocational course meaning it prepares you for work in health and social care settings.
